Lehman Road, east on Simpson Road, south on Queen Street through the airport gate, then east and curving south to the Abbotsford Air Show compound.

We have 12 spots in the morning from 0845 to 1245 and 12 spots in the afternoon from 1245 to 1700.  Email you name to 819air to sign up, please indicate which shift you are attending. (put glider in the subject line)

Familiarization Gliding is conducted entirely outdoors, in an area that is open to wind and weather, and which does not have any shelter whatsoever. Attending cadets are expected to dress in civilian clothing that is appropriate to any weather that might be encountered throughout the day. The most common errors are wearing clothing that is too light, and not bringing a jacket appropriate to conditions.
The gliding day often starts out chilly but warms quickly and sun exposure becomes a real concern as noon approaches. Proper sun protection, including hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen, is essential for a safe and comfortable experience. Closed-toe footwear is mandatory…no flip-flops or sandals. Cadets will be on their feet all day, on paved and grass surfaces; footwear that has a good tread and some support will maximize comfort. Attending cadets are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient water and snacks for the day. Air Ops does not provide food and follows the “pack it in – pack it out” philosophy. All garbage created must go with the individual who created it.

Conduct of familiarization gliding is a “team sport” and requires the participation and full attention of everyone on the airfield. Cadets on the airfield will not have the opportunity to do homework, and the use of electronic devices (including phones) is prohibited unless authorized by the Site Commander or Launch Control Officer.  Parents can stay to watch but will not be permitted on the airfield.
